They're Here!!!!

Sorry, I'm not the best blogger, but things happened very fast. Right after Christmas (on Dec. 26) I was admitted to the hospital due to further dilation - 2.5 cm. Then on Dec. 28 my water broke and I was transferred to another hospital. My water broke at 7:30, I was moved by 10:00 and Little Lizzie was born at 2:48 - so you can see that it all happened quickly. Here's all the details on our new additions:

Elizabeth Grace - 3 lbs. 5 oz, 16 inches, 2:48 pm
Paul Victor - 3 lbs. 9 oz, 16 inches, 3:18 pm

They are both doing really really great for being 30 week babies. Paul was intubated for less than a day and Lizzie has not need any additional oxygen. Lizzie is being treated for some light jaundice.

Here are some pictures of Lizzie and her daddy:

I'll be back with more info soon (hopefully).

Bed Rest!

The day has come - the doctors put me on bed rest today. The babies are putting a little too much pressure on my cervix and it starting to open already. Everything else looks good. The results of today's ultrasound:

Baby A - Heartbeat 156 Weight 2lbs 9oz
Baby B - Heartbeat 150 Weight 2lbs 6oz

I go back next week and hopefully the cervix will not open any more. I'm staying positive that the babies are going to stay in their current home for another 4 - 6 weeks. Until then, I'll get to catch up on my reading and keep Charlie busy.

First Baby Shower

On Thursday, Dec. 7, the babies had their first shower! My co-workers threw a delightful shower, complete with lots of good food and tons of presents. Thanks to their generosity we have lots of onesies, gowns, and sleepers for the babies. We also recieved their first books, some rubber duckies, and other wonderful gifts.

The cake was prepared with our Classic Winnie-the-Pooh theme.

Also, that night we went to another baby class - this one all about labor and delivery. We actually saw a video of a woman giving birth. Let me tell you, it's nothing like I imagined. Even the woman in the video said it didn't look like a baby when just the head was sticking out. The only thing I know is that I'll never agree to be taped while going through birth. Our next appointment is coming up on Tuesday, Dec. 12 so hopefully we'll have some new pictures up by Wednesday night.

Baby Classes

Last night we went to our first baby classes. They were on postpartum and anesthesia for labor. These classes were provided free of charge by Baptist East - where we'll be delivering. They were very informative and we really enjoyed getting the information. I will be getting an epidural if we go vaginally and apparently for scheduled C-sections they use a spinal block. The anesthesiologist they had talk to us was very up front (and funny) which makes me feel better about the whole process.

The postpartum class actually explained how Baptist East handles everything after the birth, as well as some handouts on general postpartum care.

As for the babies - they're kicking and moving quite a bit - which is really cool to feel.

New Bookshelves

Today my Dad installed new bookshelves along a wall in our living room. Here's a picture of them now.
We still have to put in all the shelves. The great thing is that they're adjustable - he just put lots of holes on the sides. I'm very excited as I've had to search through boxes for the past year to find my books. Also, now we're going to move the office furniture into that room - freeing up the nursery for baby stuff!

Black Friday

Happy Black Friday!!! Charlie and I did not get up early to go shopping and have no plans to do so for the rest of the day. I know a time will come when I'll have to be out fighting the shoppers to get THE TOY, but till then, we're taking it easy. We had a nice day at the Allgeiers yesterday and today we're having dinner with the Rademakers. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

New Blog

Welcome to our blog - dedicated to the growth of our twins! The twins were conceived using IVF in June 2006. The official due date is March 7, 2007 - but we expect them to be here in February 2007. We are not finding out the genders, so they will be referred to as Baby A and Baby B. They are named such as Baby A is the lower baby and would be born first in a vaginal delivery. Here are the stats as of November 17, 2006:

Baby A ~ Heartbeat - 168, weight 1lb 8oz
Baby B ~ Heartbeat - 148, weight 1lb 11oz

Everything looked good at the check in. As of now I am 25 weeks along. Our biggest hope is to make it to at least 34 weeks, which would be Jan. 24, 2007.

Here are pictures from Oct. 20, 2006 (20 weeks) for Baby A - Arm and Foot

Here are pictures of Baby B from Nov. 17, 2006 (24 weeks):

We could not get pictures of Baby A's head because Baby B's bottom is in the way.

And here's a picture of the expectant mother today, Nov. 22, 2006 (25 weeks)

I'll try to keep things updated along the way. Our next appointment is Dec. 12, 2006.
